Cleaning knobs instrument

For the last 5 years I have used a toothbrush and spray cleaner to clean knobs, sometimes in addition to an ultrasonic cleaner, the results have been fine
I think there must be something better than a toothbrush
I Have seen fingernail brushes and oversized toothbrushes

what have people here used to clean knobs, specifically what kind of brush etc, and where did you get that brush

Last time I cleaned filthy knobs I didn't have to use a brush. I set them in the sink then sprayed them with LA's Totally Awesome and it all just ran right off. Rinsed with water and looked good as new.
I think it can be found at those Dollar Stores or Everything's a Dollar, someplace like that. Should get some, it isn't expensive and I was amazed as I watched the dirt flow off in just seconds. These knobs were ugly filthy nicotine, etc.

Ultrasonic cleaner. Just be careful with any knobs that has a setscrew in them as they can be vibrated out of their holes. As a bonus, your significant other can use it to clean jewelry.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner
I have found a toothbrush to be a bit better
Although mine may not be the best

Ultrasonic and then a light brushing with an old tooth brush if not clean enough. Sometimes and extra wipe with a microfibre if they have a lot of "smoker's residue".

A few hrs. to overnight soaking in Simple Green while in the USC`s tub, then run the USC for ~ 20 min, with a rinse in clean water afterwards.
Seem to work very well for me on and off in the past, especially with older knurled/fluted knobs with decades of embedded "hand mung".

Usually the pre soaking/USC procedure outlined above eliminated the manual hassle of toothbrush scrubbing follow up.

Has this cleaner worked well for front panels, cleaning without damaging the lettering ?

I sprayed it on some parts units. It didn't do anything to the lettering. A Yamaha, Proton, NAD, Marantz and an old The Voice of Music receiver. I've only used it on knobs in the past. As with any cleaner, even water on AM/FM dials, use it with caution.
