Cleaning Magnepans?

vincei

aka MasterControlMedia
I just aquired a set of MG10 QR's and wanted to make sure it would be ok to lightly vaccuum the socks (I think that's what the material is called). Or is there another way? I hope it's not a silly question, but I am completly new to panels...:music:

Be Careful and don`t put too much pressure on the socks when you vacumn. You can also remove (Big PIA) the socks and wash them if they are stained. They will come off there are just a Ton of staples holding them on thus the PIA part.

Just for reference, do not vacuum any magnepan ribbon tweeters. I kno wthe 10 does not have them but if someone bombs in and sees this thread with a pair of 2.5/R or something they could ruin the tweeter

Hi there! (Agoraquest) That black/grey combo looks great in your room :thmbsp: One nice thing about Maggies is their light weight. That allows you to move them to a better listening position for music listening and then back again for video use.

I don't know if you've done any speaker modding, but with a few upgrades, Maggies can really start to sing. Want to try an easy experiment? Replace that steel jumper bar in the "attenuator" connection with a piece of good speaker wire.
Maggies are great speakers in stock form, but once modded, you'll really begin to see their performance ceiling :music:.

Magnepans don't attract dust etc. like electrostatic loudspeakers do, so they don't need to be cleaned that often...

Thanks for the tips. I had a 2 hr listening session last night and was quite impressed with them. I didn't adjust postion and I just connected everything quick just to test them. I can't wait to start to experiment. I should have got a pair years ago. :music:

They say, "Once you go flat, you don't go back".

That's exactly what I was thinking while I was listening, I don't think I can go back to a box type speaker. I was floored with every song I was playing. I could easily play "flat" and the speaker will just reproduce the recording. I can only imagine what a higher end model would sound like...:scratch2:
