hi, inherited some old but good audio equipment, marantz and nakamichi and B&O....standard metal outside but it has been in a damp closet for awhile and has some staining on the outside....is there a simple cleaning fluid or spray i can buy somewhere that works best to bring out a little of its luster....all the equipment pieces are standard black...the TT has a plastic case (B&O) ...any help to make the old stuff look a little more dignified would be appreciated before i go and use the wrong thing........thanks everyone....

To be honest with you, for exterior surfaces I like to start out with something simple like Windex or household cleaner and work up from there. For the inside parts, tuner spray, Deoxit, compressed air... search the forums. Plenty of info on cleaning. Be careful not to over do it when it comes to cleaning the electronic parts.

ok thanks...i used a damp sponge to remove at least the top layer and even that looks better....i can take the equipment apart a little and just blow out any dust.......

Don't forget to clean where you can't see. If you have any issue with crackling, hum, fading, etc., Deoxit is a miracle worker. It won't cure all problems with audio equipment, but you will be amazed at how many it will. There is a great "sticky" on the use of Deoxit at the top if this page.
