Cleaning pots

I'm still working on a Sansui 9090, I did a recap, thank's to TnSilver. Hi had few issues, but now everything is sweet, except for a scratche vol/balance pots. It's between the 4 and 6. I did soak in a ipa solution the entire pots, when I did the recapping, but the noise is still there. So when a saw the 9090 restauration from kale I thought I should re open my sansui and give a little bit of love to the volume pots and to the others to.
My questions.
What would you, use to clean-it. ? ( deoxit-gold, standard, fader lub, ipa, rust cream ?)
What kind of lube for this pots ?
And finnaly for the sealled pots do you get rid of the old grease and you replace it with what kind ?
this project is over one year now for a lot of reasons, I'm not in a rush but I want it to be close to perfect. I love this amp.

I'd go with a small amount of Fader Lube and work them back and forth for a while. I've heard of people drilling access holes in completely sealed pots, but I've never tried that and am in no position to recommend it.

I bought some little "syringe bottles" and they work nicely for getting a small amount where it needs to go w/o over spray and mess.

I've dealt with these on Kenwood receivers. A huge PITA.
 
The volume pot on a 9090 is not sealed. It's a typical pot with good access to spray the interior. When you said you soaked the entire pot in an IPA bath, what brand India Pale Ale did you use? It's important to use one with a high alcohol content. My current favorite is Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. So can you clarify that it was the pot and not the tech that you soaked in IPA?

If you have actually soaked it in a bath of isopropyl alcohol you have already done more that what is typically necessary to clean a pot. All I would add to that is Fader Lube (or whatever Caig Labs call that product these days.) It's possible that the pot is bad. Does the scratchyness occur in both channels? Is it both the volume control and the balance control?

so, I am wondering what kind of liquid can clean that silver ring? I have brass brush for my Dremel tool what is just great for that job, soft enough, not too much hard, after that, I clean all parts with Kontakt61, European Deoxit....
 
BTW, that silver ring should be like on the next picture

You could clean the silver with a pencil eraser, pink only, or use some tarnex but be quick to wash it off ASAP with distilled water and do not let any get into the other areas.

Those pictures are very, clear. Thank you for the infos on the lock washer. I will take my time and precaution to, so there's no jumping spring.

well, here in Quebec we produce all kind of IPA, I tend to use some hops with a citrus aroma, you know that acid clean well !!!
I will try to find the Sierra Nevada Torpedo try it" Maybe the trick is to take a couples of those until I don't hear the scratchy sound anymore .
The isopropyl alcohol did a great jobs, on the parts that I can see, But it's difficult to be sure for the parts that I don't have access.
It's only the volume, that is affected. Between 3 and 5
I hope that is not a burn spot on the contact plate

I will try to put some fader lub, to ear what it does. But still I will probably open the little puzzle to sleep in piece.

I will come back with the results and pics.
I plan to open the beast a the end of the month...that's my time frame sadly...
