Cleaning Silverplate ?

My wife found a relatively large silverplate serving tray in an antique store/junque shoppe ystrday for $20, & of course, it came home w/us. It has no major issues, other than being an ugly mottled black/grey from tarnishing. I broke out my trusted Wright's Silver Creme last night, & set to, but it has proved a little more difficult than I would have imagined... I appeal to the collective wisdom of AK, is there anything out there that will clean silver easier & perhaps more "aggressively" than Wright's, & liberal applications of "Armstrong's Elbow Grease" ? I'm mindful of the fact that the "plate" on these "Silverplate" jobs usually isn't any thicker than a good Butter Bean Fart, so it can't be TOO aggressive, but still..What I've managed to clean so far looks pretty good, but it'll kinda look like @ss if the WHOLE THING don't look good, if you follow...Awaiting w/Bated Breath-and a large supply of old wore-out T-Shirts, Unca Sandy

I've used simi chrome on brass and silver. You can pick it up at automotive stores.

Any paste will have abrasive in it and remove the plate.

But some TarnX, pour some on it, and use a toothbrush. If that doesn't work, I won't suggest trying muratic acid(like for your swimming pool), because it could be dangerous if not used properly.

Have not used your treatment Sandy, but if you can find a bottle of Tarn-X, I believe it should do a good job for you.

Good old Arm & Hammer Baking Soda works wonders on tarnished silver, Sandy.
Use it like a paste with a soft cloth and then rinse thoroughly with cold water and towel dry.

Note if the plating has gone bad, nothing outside of replating will bring it back.

I wonder if that Never Dull wading polish stuff might work? I used it in the
past on old car parts ect... with good results.

My mother-in-law places a sheet of foil in her kitchen sink, and adds some simple ingredients (IIRC: water and water softener) to clean her silverware.
