Cleaning sticky and dusty woofers, yay or nay?

I'm in the process of restoring an old pair of BIC Venturi Formula 4 and the woofers are still working great, but they are sticky and dusty (I wonder if something sticky like soft drink spilled on them before). I want to know if this is advisable to clean them and if yes, how. I will post pictures of the dirty woofers tonight.

I have had very good luck using lint/hair removal brushes such as this one:

Usually they have one-way fibers that allow you to "scrape" the cone without actually damaging the cone in any way and are very good at getting dust and hair off. For sticky spots I would go with rubbing alcohol, Q-tips, and be very slow and careful.

Thanks! Will give the alcohol a try! I also have this kind of brush at home so I will try this as well!

Some speakers are intentionally sticky, such as some Polks and a pair of T&A Stratus P-30s I have. Not exactly sure why, cone break-up, damping? If both speakers are the same, this could be why.
