Cleaning the platter mat: what is (not) correct?

Hello!

Once in a while I give a mat some gentle warm-water wash with a mild soap, then let it dry flat on a piece of paper.

As a means of general TT overhaul, - is it OK to wash the mat in an US cleaner?

I'm sure you can, but why?
I have the Boston Audio Mat & I never even gave it any thought to clean it with my U/S cleaner. Just damped wipe with filtered water & microfiber towel.

It is a rub mat? Mild soapy water and thorough dry is all.

Yes, a rubber mat.

Use micro fiber cloth (high quality that does not leave lint) soaked with isopropyl (or ethyl) alcohol, start rotation and clean with cloth.

I just vacuum my cork mat and fiber mats once a week when the maid comes on Tuesday. The VPI fibre mat on the Dragon/515B and the VPI Cork mat on my TD 125. I also set my humidity control at 45% in the winter to reduce static. When I had rubber mats I used dust covers and washed the mat about once a month. I also used a Zero stat to prevent any possibility of static or dust building up on rubber Thorens mats.

On rubber mats I've also just done dish soap and water.

Anything that absorbs water gets vacuumed or wiped with a very slightly damp cloth.

The Herbie's mat on my Thorens says to use masking tape rolled into a loop to clean it off, and that works pretty well.

I use an lint roller for my Herbies Mat.

Sticky urethane roller works well for hard mats, but for rubber a little soap and lots of water, let it air dry.

The Herbies has a layer of open cell foam in there. I've avoided getting it wet just because I don't know if it will dry properly or potentially cause the glue to fail between the layers while it does.
