Clearaudio Emotion or Concept?

I don't know what is so attractive about the magnetic tone arm. The Satisfy is an extraordinary quality arm, and uses a 1st rate gimbal system using polished sapphire bearings on a tungsten riding point. The machine work is perfect, to the level of a fine watch. The arm is of very low resonance design; one of the lowest resonance arms I have tried. The Satisfy arm is used on, and a perfect match, for far higher priced tables. It's a bargain to find an arm like this on tables in this price range.

Chris you are completly right there is "nothing" wrong with the satisfy.
I`ve played a Goldfinger in a Satisfy (with Sixstream phonocable) on an Emotion.
But I have a personal preference for the new arm on a string.

Hans.

p.s. At a presentation Years back at the Holland VAD-Show I saw a Ebony arm.

I'll be trying a Dynavector 10x5 on one in the next week or two. I eventually will be using a Benz Ace or Glider with my Concept.

Would you please let us know your impressions? I would be very interested in knowing your opinion!

There is no better bearing for a tonearm than no bearing. Any tonearm that has bearings transmits vibration from the tonearm wand to the base, then to the plinth were the vibration is then to be dissipated. The problem is mass stores energy and can transmit that energy back up the arm. When the is no bearing (like on the concept) the energy stops there. That is my understanding anyway.........:thmbsp:

Actually, the energy does not 'stop'. The lesser coupling results in higher amplitude vibration level in the arm and also results in a larger energy reflection.

Fortunately, the arm tube design used here (assuming it's the same as the Satisfy's) is of such design to have lower amplitude vibration in the first place compare do most. Either method may have minimal effect in this particular case, but again, I am assuming the two arms use identical tube/head system(which appears to be so in photos).

But there are people that prefer poor coupling, but most prefer a better coupling to the base/mount to allow a circuit for the vibration to partially drain and reduce over-all arm vibration level.
