That stuff looks pretty darn good. I may have to peel off the stuff from Joanne's I put on my two pairs maybe 10 years ago and redo with this. Thanks for the link!

I was very happy to repurpose some Magneplanar sock material and I can do plenty more. It is more slubby than the original but hell I'm looking to make the speakers look great and don't really give a damn about exact match because that isn't available with all the offerings in this thread. And who is going to know? Are we taking these things to a concours d'elegance with dedicated judges for each make and model, calling foul for something that isn't an exact replacement? I just enjoy the look and sound of mine.

But the three sources mentioned are just fine, none exact, all better looking than old stained ripped grilles.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but its a fun part of this hobby trying to find as close a match in fabric as possible... The key word is fun, for me. Over the years, I’ve looked at quite a few non reupholstered Dynaco speakers, and have noticed that there was more than one fabric used, so an exact match doesn’t actually apply, in my experience...

Fun is great and the reason, but you mention that exact matches change. I've only had two pair, the first in great shape no change and the second with only one good grille frame. I just wanted great looking A25s and the fabric I used got that look. So many different things in the hobby to put time and effort into to reap rewards. We each have our own goals.
 
Has anyone tried any of the above sources that can comment on the match of the fabric? I must admit that the photos look pretty close. I have a set of A-40XL's that need to be recovered and want to make them fairly close to original. Part of the reason is I also have a pair of A-25XL's that I do not need to recover, so want to have them pretty close, although I admit the three sources above all seem pretty darn good. I was giving up hope of finding any until I found this helpful thread.

My wife told me that maybe using some curtain panels would work for such as well. I have hit, JCP and BB&B so far and the closest thing was OK, but not great. However, I see several on Amazon that might work. Just hard to tell when viewing on a screen. Here is one.

OK I have officially lost it when it comes to selecting the right cloth. I hit more local stores and frankly was disappointed. A CSR at a higher end fabric store told me to be looking at sheer fabrics. I brought my A-40XL fabric with me for her to review. The one problem I have is the weight of the fabric. Some are quite heavy and others very light. The thick ones geared for upholstery would not be good, while a few of the lightweight ones might be too sheer. I have one or two places in my town to try yet, (semi-large city) and then I may have to order something and hope for the best.

Here is another that I am considering. Is 3 oz per yard too light? Maybe this stuff is too sheer?!

I found this scale and wonder if anyone has a clue what the original Dynaco fabric was.

Fabric Weight

Very Lightweight = 0 – 3.4 oz/yd²
Lightweight = 3.5 – 5.9 oz/yd²
Medium Weight = 6 – 7.9 oz/yd²
Medium/Heavyweight = 8 – 9.9 oz/yd²
Heavyweight = 10 – 11.9 oz/yd²
Very Heavyweight = 12 – 25 oz/yd²

I don't know if they still have it, but Wal-Mart fabric departments used to have an unbleached cotton fabric in a fairly open, linen-like weave that looked a whole lot like the Dynaco fabric.
 
I was ever hopefully going to Walmart tonight, however to no avail. It seems they have shrunk their fabric department in recent years. I am almost about to pull the plug on buying some on the net. My fear is too tight a weave, too thick, too thin, etc I have written to Noveltex and asked for a sample of one of their linens they sell on Amazon. Some websites have sample policies, usually maybe $2 a piece, but then tack a fairly big shipping charge on. Can't blame them, since my purchase will likely be all of two yards and they won't make much on that. Going to have to gamble a few dollars it appears. Some of the Indian fabrics look very interesting as well, but delivery times would make this a very long drawn out process if one had to order more that once.

The Amazon fabric look like it could be good. Have you asked them for more info? I have some KLH Six that I need fabric. Very interested in what you end up with.
 
Lo, I emailed their customer service tonight. I was honest and advised I am probably looking at two whole yards. I even included a photo of my present cloth. You never know. I handled many situations like that for years and if a guy came to me with a problem, I did everything I could to help him out. I’ll let you know their response.

Update: Since other people had used this fabric and there were reviews, I asked if previous users thought it would be too dense for speaker grille use. The general consensus was that it is too dense or thick. I have one more possible source in my city that will physically check out and report back

I found the fabric I am going with for all my Dynaco's. I went to a drapery shop that had lots of rolls and lots of sample books. There was a beautiful remnant of some very similar fabric albeit it too gray. It was only $3.95 and I wanted to love it. However I finally went through about ten or more books of sheers and selected a poly fabric from Norbar. It has just the right mix of openness which is one of the things I was looking for. And a fair amount of slubs to make it look like the original. My 40's have a lighter color on them than my 25's. although I think the grilles on the 25's have darken with age and exposure.

It wasn't cheap as they had to special order it and add a shipping charge. I am tired of driving around however and I know I would waste some money on the net getting samples. The fabric is from Norbar. It is their Capricorn pattern and the color is fog. It's in their Empire book. It is on the Norbar website, but with no image. In fact any site that has it does not have an image displayed. I had hoped to link for it for your guys.

Once I get the fabric (about a week) I will post some kind of photo and let you be the judge. I am happy with my decision.
