Cloth Surround Dope for KLH Speakers

I currently own KLH Model 317 and Model 32 speakers with cloth surrounds.

I also own old Sears-Roebuck, Fisher XP-70, Realistic Minimus 2, Realistic Nove 7, Knight, and Lafayette speakers with cloth surrounds.

I like how cloth surrounds sound.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to find a way to get ahold of the dope for the speaker surrounds and have had no luck. I tried to join the AR forums and speak directly to Roy C, but have been in limbo for months awaiting approval to join (and therefore post upon) the forums.

I recently found a product claiming to be the original formulation on EBay called Aquaplas Speaker Surround Coating for Accordian Paper and Cloth Cone Edges D130.

Does anyone have experience using this product or know where I can get the original stuff sold by Roy?

Thanks!

I just discovered that Roy is also on here and have messaged him directly.

Secondary question: Not all of the cloth surrounds look like they were treated (I realize the stuff is pretty particular to KLH and AR speakers). Should I do anything to speakers that were not originally treated?

Not sure about your sealant question (which ones do and don't
need it). Would probably depend on the specific make and model.

Tons of reports of Aquaplas here. I just haven't paid attention, as it's
mostly in the Altec/JBL world, and that's not where I live.

@gkimeng is a member here, a mod at the AR forum, and can
hook you up with membership.

I ended up connecting with Roy directly.

As for the rest of the speakers, I may start another thread.

I’m not sure how to remove this one.

where do I reach out to Roy. I have read a bunch of posts on rehabbing cloth speaker surrounds here that mention Roy. But I have no idea how to contact him.

Did you find Roy? I'm working on KLH model 17s and need to get butyl rubber surround coating.

DANMONTY: He's "RoyC" here. Don't know if you have to be a paid subscriber but, for me, there's an envelope icon in the upper right corner of this screen that allows one to send a Direct Message (DM) to a user. See if you can wrangle that piece of 21st Century jive ... and Good Luck! Roy's goop is the ONLY thing for AR/KLH woofs.

I had tried to contact Roy C. via DM here. As I recall no response. I have used the Aquaplas. It worked fine. It is a clear somewhat thick liquid inside the bottle. Look and smell remind me strongly of rubber cement. I used it on KLH 17s. It worked fine. A collector might balk at fact it is clear vs. the original coating being black. Possibly it is a different formulation. But as far as the speakers working, it worked just fine.
