CNC machines and modern speakers

Speaker enclosures of today are cut by CNC machines.

This guy has his own and they're getting more and more affordable ( under a grand in some cases ).

If you have access to a CNC router you can program in the dimensions and get an instant flat pack. With some glue and clamps you're in business.

Most cabinet shops of any size have a CNC machine. Supply the wood and any of them could cut your speakers for a nominal charge.

Very cool. My wife is involved with a lot of "maker" stuff and has access to these types of machines. I may well have a project to do this summer :)
 
I ran CNC Mills, Lathes, Lasers, Wire EDMs for 20 years. It is very fascinating to know and see how things are made.
 
I wish my garage wasn't quite so full of bikes. Ok, not really.

I'm a little surprised this doesn't happen more on an on demand basis.
 
Pre cut flat packs are a great choice for full range single driver speakers.

Not having a crossover to deal with makes for an easy assembly. The drivers in most cases are just wired directly to the speaker binding posts. Some require damping material while others don't.

Paul you shoulda been a cabinet maker :D

I actually took a weekend course in cabinet making at a local woodworking store. I really enjoyed it and learned how to do joinery with the Kreg pocket hole jig. Even though we built kitchen cabinets the tools and construction were much the same as for audio.
