Coaxial home stereo speakers

Is there a decent coaxial speaker out there for home use? Does the whizzer cone work?

After building a few car systems I realized that separates were always the way to go. They seem to want to cram as many dome tweeters on top of car speakers as they can (I’ve seen 5 ways!).

Every now and then I come across a project that involves upgrading a single paper speaker and I’m wondering if there are any decent coaxial home speakers that won’t break the bank. I’ve always seen the whizzer cone as a gimmick but do they work? What are the downsides to a coaxial speaker (the kind with a tweeter sitting on top of the cone)?

Best sounding set of speakers i own are open baffle Lii Song F15s (whizzer cone).

The MoFi coax speakers are well regarded. My friend has the SourcePoint 10’s. The sound really nice. I have a pair of Radian 15” coaxes with custom series crossovers the I enjoy a lot.

These are great coaxial drivers when built in the correct box.

If you consider vintage speakers, there are a number of Coaxials from Altec and JBL, among others.
I have a couple pair of UREI 809 Monitors in my media room that utilize these drivers, based on the JBL 2214 woofers ...



Saw a biography of the late Tom Petty where you could see he favored the UREI monitors in his home studio ...
The TV is flanked by my pair as Front Mains (I have another pair for side mains in a 6.1 config at that time).

I just picked up a pair of realistic 12" coaxials. Everyone was getting in on that game.

Altec 604 in various incarnations is one of the best.

If you mean coaxial two or three way systems, the Altec 604s (and the Tannoys) in a proper cabinet are stunning.
If you mean whizzer cone coaxials, the Lowther PM 6s are just wonderful, but obviously less fully full range than the much bigger Altecs. Probably people will speak up to praise the Fostex full range drivers, but I don't have experience of them.
