Coaxial or Full Range Speakers for 20x24'

Ive been looking to upgrade my speakers for awhile and still haven't figured out what direction to go in. I currently run a seeburg cabinet with utah 12" woofers and Altec 806a 811b Horns, or a Zenith 49cz950 full range open baffle. Ive been looking at GPA 604-8H-III and older 604/605 Altec models but haven't been able to make a decision. Then I started looking at the Audio Nirvana models 15" classic or super Alnico but haven't found much information on them other than from the Audio Nirvana themselves. I also recently started looking at the Beyma 15xa38na coaxials that look pretty awesome as well.

Does anybody have experience with these speakers to help me make an informed decision, I most likely will build some form of corner cabinet because I really like the sound of a vintage 50s General Electric coax speaker I heard recently. I use a Fisher 400 for amplification and listen to everything so im really looking for whatever can excel in deep deep bass has great mid range and isn't good at only reproducing one type of music versus another.

What is the issue with the Utah/811? That seems like a better combo, to my ear, than all the others
 
Mark looks great, is that a 604-8G? I've considered that with a Jeff Markwart crossover the longest... Read all sorts of reviews ups and downs, the GPA model is way to expensive at this point and I never liked the idea of it being ferrite; they briefly had a "604-EII" (Confusing with the other one of the same name) that was Alnico but Bill said nobody was buying so they stopped making them.

The Utah/811 combo is ok at best I tamed the 806a with a zobel to match it closer to the Utah, But the Utah doesn't reach as low as I like and the 806a doesn't reach high enough either and I can still hear up to 20khz myself. I considered the Altec 19 combination of 416B & 802G, but I prefer the imaging and characteristics of a coax.

i also haven't experienced any neodymium drivers so I don't know if the Beyma is a good match though it seems like of all the choices it reaches both high and low.
 
Although I'm a big Altec fan, I'd go with the Beyma 15xa38nd. Besides their excellent reputation and a potentially superior horn (with no need for a super tweeter, as the Beyma horn easily extends to 20kHz), an examination of the published specifications indicate that your prospects for a successful build should be high:

Add to that the fact that the street price is less than 1/2 the cost of an Altec 604 variant. That leaves a potential kitty of over $1000 to build (or have built) a pair of custom cabinets tuned specifically for the Beyma.

That's my opinion, and it's worth . . . exactly what it cost 'ya. ;)

The drivers are 604E with Mastering Labs crossovers as shown.

They're currently employed in a somewhat outrageous "Frankenaltec" configuration -- but that's out of scope relative to this thread! :)
 
I've been reading a few threads on the other sites about the Beyma speakers being used in a Tannoy GRF style enclosure. I might go this route the more I read about it sounds like a pretty promising build
 
I really wouldn't bother with the 605s. They really have no top end to them and I've always found them to be a disappointment.
 
can anybody explain how to put tannoy's GRF enclosure into hornresp? I haven't used the program much and don't quite understand how to input the proper data for the enclosure or any enclosure for that matter.
