Looking to get my old Nova back on the road where it belongs...

I want to know who uses what collector car insurance and your likes\dislikes about the company.

I'm planning on going with an insurance that gives low rates for a car driven less that 5K miles\year.

I use American Collectors Ins for my vintage BMWs and VWs. My regular carrier (Amica) referred me. I have used them for 5 years, but have had no claims yet, so can't really comment on service. I like the low rates and the ability to negotiate a stated value up front.Expect to pay around $150- 250/yr and don't even bother to apply if your record is bad. I live in SC, a bad state for insurance (high uninsured driver rate and no vehicle inspection) so this coverage saves me over $1500/yr. Most companies have mileage and usage restrictions. Mileage is no problem for me, and it's really honor system as far as what I use the car for.

I was just checking with Hagerty insurance and saw that I could get upgraded insurance for $312 a year...

I'll check with American Collectors Ins.

I use JC Taylor for my Mustang and Riviera. You set the value so premium is kind of in your hands. I've never had a claim so I can't make any comments about adjustment and payment. They do have verbage about the auto being used primarily for parades or club functions. They will not cover for "Daily Driving".

For those interested, that picture above is my car that was in the movie with James Garner called “The Notebook” from 20 years ago. The original owner was supposed to be Hedy Lamarr - named the most beautiful woman in Hollywood.

I use Hagerty for my 88 corvette:

$250 Cdn a year. Only gets driven on sunny weekends in the summer, so the Hagerty coverage is fine for me. Spends the rest of its time in the garage under a dust cover.

I don’t care about the ins other than I need it to be road legal, but there is towing coverage and a few other “nice to haves” with the Hagerty coverage. Just can’t remember what they are off the top of my head. Not even sure what deductibles and whatnot are like. They way I look at it, if I wreck it, its on me anyways.

Basically, I’m just concerned with PL and PD.

We also have CAA platinum coverage on the drivers in the house so will never need the Hagarty “extras”.

Used Hagerty for two cars at the same time ('36 Ford Tudor and '74 Torino). Progressive for a classic boat.

Stated value policies. Nothing crazy, Torino was $35k, Tudor was $25k. Can't remember the policy cost. Sold both cars a few years ago. Had to send some documentation (photos), but no big deal.

Never made a claim, although the boat was stolen and recovered.

FWIW, insuring the second car was almost free. I guess they figure you can only drive one at a time. :dunno: Too bad the regular insurance companies don't feel that way.

I have American Modern Insurance for my 1971 Volvo P1800. An agreed value policy with 100,000/500,000 liability coverage, 0 deductible comprehensive, fire, theft, personal effects, spare parts coverage, towing, etc. costs less than $300 per year. I can use the car for pleasure driving any time I want, and drive up to 6000 miles a year. I could up that mileage limit for a nominal additional cost but the current limit is plenty for me, plus if I do go over they'll just ask if I want to up the mileage limit for next year. When I first contacted them for a quote they would not insure it for the value I suggested, saying it was worth a lot more than I paid for it. The price was more than reasonable so I couldn't disagree.

Hagerty for the three Lincolns. None of them insured for a lot because they aren't worth a lot, but I pay less for 12 months for all 3 of them than I do for basic liability for 6 months on my truck. No mileage limits, though practically speaking I don't put enough on those cars to justify even an annual oil change.
