This sounds like BS, and I hope it's not true.........

BULLETIN: Mymusicfix has been told that the EPA will no longer allow the vinyl industry to produce colored vinyl products because of its lead content. So collectors of colored vinyl pressings need to stay on top of the titles they want to own in colored vinyl because this product will now become some of the rarest collectibles in the vinyl industry.

This is a guy on ebay, selling some pretty amazing stuff at very amazing prices.

well, it makes perfect sense. the epa is worried about all the lead that would be released into the atmosphere whenever someone burns an lp to cd. we can't have that, can we???
 
I don't know for sure about the EPa but I just gor a copy of KISS-Alive III on Blue Vinyl brand new and I thought it sounded great. I do have some picture discs though and I can tell ya, they do sound like... opps, i almost went too far there!!!

I have an OZZY pic disc and a 45 pic disc of David Coverdale. Both sound horrible. I didn't get them for play really but as a collector edition. I also have a Grand Funk Railroad -We're An American Band that is in Yellow - clear vinyl that sounded great years ago. Not sure about now as I haven't played that LP in over 20 years. HMMM, maybe it's time!

I guess it depends on who you talk to. The ones I have listened to sounded good to me. But the Pic Discs I think aren't ment for play as the clear colored vinyl are.

I hate colored ones, get rid of them. They don't sound any worse or any better, so it serves no useful purpose. I have always felt disappointment to open a new album and have it not be black vinyl. My Siamese Dream is the worst. It is some stupid orange marble crap like the pos Dave Mason brown marble crap, it is impossible to judge the surface for a needed cleaning. The newest Therion is one clear yellow and one clear orange, wow, impressive...not.

Well, black vinyl is actually colored vinyl. It's clear in pure form. That Dave Mason sucks ass though. Worst sounding piece of marbled/colored vinyl I own. I've got some translucent colored vinyl albums that not only look good but sound very nice.

I'd be dang skeptical of anyone spreading this story on eBay who is also selling colored vinyl. Maybe it's true, but I haven't heard it anywhere else.

All the colored vinyl I've heard is fine. Red used to be the standard before black.

Yep, and one audiophile label has just released a few titles (older jazz like Coltrane etc) on clear vinyl, claiming that they did tests and determined that the metal particles in black vinyl become magnetized and are thus detrimental to the sound, so clear is the way to go. Whether or not that's true, I bought the Cannonball Adderley single they pressed and it does sound awesome.

I kind of like colored vinyl, except the kind that's what I call "clear orange," some of you might know what I'm talking about. I don't like that.
