I just acquired an SX-1280 from a friend and started to go through the receiver to restore it to its former glory.
Talking to all you Pioneer fans of these receivers would be a big moral and technical help because it looks to be a big job.
My 1280 is in near mint on the outside after I spend 4 1/2 hrs cleaning the face and knobs.
The guy that had it before me (first owner) was a SMOKER...........
The walnut top and sides look to be in really good shape. No bent or broken heatsink fins good paint.
The metal covers are also in pretty good shape, good paint no scratches.
I am having a problem with the tuning meter, it will not center when on a stereo station even when the signal strength meter is high and tuned in on the station.I have to defeat FM muting to get audio out, I get stereo sound on both channels (good quality) but no stereo light either.I have not cleaned (CAIG DeoxIT D5S-6 Spray, Contact Cleaner / Rejuvenator) any of the switches, buttons or pots yet, but I betting that won't fix the tuning meter.
I will start this restoration thread by posting some pic's of the receiver
To start, can anybody recommend a good circuit board cleaner. Like I said previously the first owner was a smoker
