Compact Cassette and DAT (keyword: demagnetizing)

I read manuals of different Compact Cassette players, from Walkman to tabletop monsters, they all say "demagnetize once in a while".
But reading manuals for DAT players, they just say to clean the head (drum). No demagnetizing is mentioned.

What's up? And how are VHS/Beta players demagnetized due to the recessed assembly?
