Comparing my Ortofon to Mojo?

So I picked up a Music Hall MMF 7.1 today and wanted to compare it to my 2mBlue on my Project Debut 3.I notice the Mojo,while it sounds great don't have the dynamics(loudness) of my Ortofon.Am I missing something about the Mojo or is that the way it is.

The Mojo is based on the Ortofon 540 MkII, which I found to be highly dynamic in terms of liveliness/transients (but perhaps not as loud as the 2M Blue).

So,it does sound great anyway,so I put a Project PhonoBox 2 on it just to get it to the level of the 2mBlue.Does this change what the cartridge does for dynamics?

I assume you mean that you've used an appropriate gain setting on the PhonoBox to bring the level of the Mojo up to the 2M Blue's? You should also play around with the capacitance settings on the PhonoBox, as this will affect the sound balance and you may prefer one setting over the others. Changing the phono pre-amp could improve the dynamics that you hear, I suppose, but I imagine it'd have the same effect on both cartridges.

This box has no settings,it's just plug and play.....it does have a switch for mm/mc carts.

According to the technical specs for the PhonoBox 2, impedance, capacitance and gain can all be adjusted using dip-switches.

Input capacitance 100 pF/ 200 pF/ 320 pF/ 420 pF
Gain switch 40 dB/ 43 dB/ 60 dB/ 63 dB

The dip-switches are located on the bottom of the unit.
 
Yes, that phono pre-amp looks to be fairly flexible in terms of adjustments, so it would be worth making use of them and experimenting a little. The 40dB and 43dB gain settings will be for MM and the others for MC. Normally, the impedance should be set to 47kOhms for MM. The capacitance settings are the main ones to play with, although you will probably settle on 100pF or 200pF.
