COMPUTER EXPERTS GUYS: What are these programs

and can I safely delete them?

I'm running Win 7 on my laptop and trying to clean it up and delete stuff I don't use . . . .

So what are these programs?

"Windows Live Essentials 2011"

and

"Windows Live Sync"

What do they do? And can I safely delete them?

Windows Live Essentials are programs like Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Photo Viewer, Windows Live Movie Maker, etc. Windows Live Sync (a.k.a. Live Mesh) is a program to allow you to sync folders between multiple PCs on the same network. If you don't use them, it is safe to uninstall them.

Well, I guess that settles it . . . since I didn't know what they were I have no need of them.

Jim,

You will find many pre loaded apps that you can get rid of. You can also open Task Manager and see what processes are running, google the name.exe to find out what it is, then from msconfig, you can uncheck them as a startup service.

When you uninstall, you get rid of most registry entries and dll files that load at startup and make your machine run a little better.

Another good tip for anyone, is whatever software you install, always choose Custom and that is where you will find they are trying to install crap you don't want, or knew was going to be installed like all the bloated 3rd part search and tool bars.

My life long good buddy, since we were 11 years old, gave me this brand new laptop . . . it was just loaded with all kinds of stuff I didn't have a clue of what was what!

If you were a particularly dumb dummy like me, & don't use Office, you'd need Windows Live Mail, to send emails & to use Craigslist. :D There is no "default" mail client in Windows 7, you need to download that whole Live Essentials package, then carefully install just Live Mail, without the rest. The rest is pretty useless, if you're not into the social networking or mobile devices. ;)
