The 68lb beast itself. Lots of rumor and legend surround this receiver. Designed by Dick Schram and made by Tandy Corp in Japan, but Tandy contracted everything, and to many manufactures. So it's hard to say who actually built it.

Las Cruses NM is a half day's drive, but I'm already 5 or 6 deep in receivers and integrated amps. Still, if one could snag this at $500 and avoid the shipping costs - they'd have something.

Ouch 500 bones is steep to me, I'd love to demo one someday. Nice little piece though
 
There is lots of info on this receiver on this site and on the net. It's a beast, but I'm not sure you'll find a better built or sounding receiver. I have one, as well as a Hitachi sr-2004, Pioneer 1250, Sony STR v-7, Mac 4100 et al, and the more power the Concept uses, the better it sounds. These are rare now, so finding one is the end of a good hunt.:music:

Cool, how's it sound? I mean, is it mellow like an old Marantz 2230, defined like a Conrad Johnson tube set, or a total immersion of sound like a 70s rock concert?

That's quite decent of you! Not sure if I'll be bidding though.

I do get down that way now and then. I have friends and relatives in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Carlsbad.
 
I would only ship with someone who understands how to ship a receiver of this size and weight.

I run my 16.5 with a pair of restored ESS AMT1c's and Dahlquist DQ 10's - have hooked it up to Vandersteen 2 ce sig and Klipsch Forte. It's a very warm sound - totally different than the Pioneer 1250 or my Marantz 2270. I did have the receiver checked out by a local tech. Highly recommended.
 
Right now running mine with JansZen e-stat hybrids. Even more revealing on the highs than Heils, so they show upstream problems if they are there.

Suspect most DQ-10s and Vandies out there are driven by separates...wouldn't describe it as warm though...closer to the biggest Onkyos perhaps but it's hard to describe. Warm to me means sloppy on the bass end, and the 450 df is the highest ever claimed for any receiver ever so no slop.

7 bills seems in the right ballpark but we all know vintage rarities vary wildly like miniskirt lengths. :D
