Concept 2QD in poor shape. Should I buy it?

Have the option to buy a Concept 2QD tt for $24.99. Its missing a foot, and one of the others is broken. The wood on two of the corners is roughed up a bit as well. Strangely, the dust cover is perfect and the platter and tone arm seem to be in good shape. Unfortunately I can't plug it in to see if she spins or not.

Basically I'm wondering if I should pick this up.

For that price i would say yes. I have owned one and it is a nice table. Wish i had it back for the garage system. I have some parts if you decide you want it.

It is a very nice table with an above average tonearm. For $25, you could certainly do a lot worse. The feet are all eminently replaceable anyway, the base issue is a bit harder to deal with. OTOH, repairing or maybe even reveneering could be a nice project.

So I joined the seemly elite club of 2QD owners yesterday by purchasing a fairly decent unit that initially seems to only need a small amount of tlc. One of the issues is with regards to the counter weight. From staring at it for some time now, it seems that the weight rotates on a threaded aluminum(?) tube that is inserted onto a notched rubber tube that is in turn mounted to the tone arm via a screw that, when tightened, expands the rubber piece which in turn holds the weight in place. My rubber piece is loose on the screw and not holding the weight in place. The problem is that the screw won't turn for nothin'. In fact I may have stripped the head somewhat trying to convice otherwise. So: a) I'm wrong and the screw is not supposed to turn; b) its held in place by some intentional invisible mechanism; c) its seized.

The cueing mechanism seems somewhat lacking at this time too, but more on that later.

Any thoughts?

Concept 2QD

Alright, so since I'm an impatient person, I have discovered that the screw at the end of the tone ARM is held in place by a secretly placed set screw on the underside of the tone arm within the hinge assembly. Once you reinstall the tone arm upside down you can get some leverage on this little screw without ripping the wiring apart. This still took almost an hour as the set screw was inexplicably frozen in place. Once out, the counterweight screw was only marginally easier to get out as it too was seized in place. All that torqueing has left the screw unuseable, so I'm on the hunt for a suitable replacement.

The next projects are what to do about the cueing mechanism (which only has about a 1/4" of play), and what to do about a cartridge (simply replace the trashed Shure 500S stylus, or upgrade to a Shure M97xE).
