Connect Yamaha a-s2100 to dbx 224

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can connect dbx 224 decoder to my Yamaha a-s2100 amplifier in order to listen to dbx vinly record? For the life of me I just could not get it to work. Is it because a-s2100 doesn't have tape loop function? If so, what will the the workaround?

Many thanks!

Interesting. Yamaha has a loop, Line 2 which receives all inputs except Line 2, meaning it is not a tape monitor function. Selecting any input will put that signal to the Rec output (line 2) and selecting Line 2 input will listen to the Line 2 input but now the phono has been unselected.

I would contact Yamaha and ask em up is up with that and if the manual is wrong or if there is a way to do a simple monitor function, allowing use of any number of signal processors.

Manufacturers today, stop thinking so hard about how we use these things. Leave some of the old stuff as you add all that new and better stuff.

Thanks for the reply Blue. I am thinking about adding a phono preamp to connect to my turntable, then use the preamp output to connect to dbx 224, then connect dbx 224 out to line 1 input on the amp. Do you think it will allow me to play dbx record this way?

Yes. That was my work around, find a line level phono into the dbx and run it out to a line level input on the Yamaha and you should be good to go.

Thank you Blue, kinda disappointed that I won't be able to use the phono on the Yamaha for this, hopefully I can find a separate phono preamp with at least the same if not better sound :)

W1jim, yea I heard great thing about dbx discs too, hopefully I can get this solved soon to really listen to them!

Be sure to give Yamaha a call and discuss it with them. They need to know that there are people that want a processor in the loop. That line 2 input should be a loop. Don't know why it isn't other than the button would be too expensive to add to the front panel.
