Connecting speakers with C22 and MC240

The back of my C22 has speaker connections from the power amp and to the speaker. I've never used this, and I've always gone RCA from the C22 to the power amp, and from there to the speakers. The C22 manual says if you run the poweramp back to the C22, you can do a 180 degree phase. What does that mean? Will it matter if I only have mono? I'm thinking about taking one of my speakers to my office.
