Connecting sub to Sony TA-N77ES/TA-E77ES Combo

OK, a few weeks back I bought something I've been eyeing ever since I started down the Sony ES rabbit hole, a Sony TA-N77ES for what I thought was reasonable money. Then, I went in search of a TA-E77ES (or the ESD or the TA-E80ES) and bought a real nice looking one from AK member Tener. My STR-GX10ES is going into my bedroom system (kind of overkill, may move to my office).

Anyway, when using my GX10ES, I hooked my subwoofer to the pre-outs. The E77ES preamp doesn't have pre-outs, so what is the best method for hooking up my powered sub? I don't know why subwoofer connection, despite watching a bunch of youtube vids on doing so, always confusing me. The sub worked well to fill in a little bass for my SS-M7s.

One more question, what the heck does Adapter do on this pre? I had the same on the GX10ES, but never had anything connected to it. An equalizer maybe? Can it work with a sub?

Any help from the crew would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, so I think I know what you're saying and had almost come to the realization on my own. One of the sets of outputs goes to the Power Amp which I knew. So, I use the other output to the Active Subwoofer. It should have been obvious, but I guess I'm just so jazzed about getting this combo I totally overlooked the simple answer. Thanks for the reply.

The remotes on these things are unobtanium. The remote for the ESD version is much more complicated than the one for the ES version. However, my Sony STR-GX10ES remote operates everything on the Sony TA-E77ES and will operate CD, Tape and VTR (not going to use) as well. It is also learning. These RM-P103s used to be unobtainium as well, except for crazy money. However I found a nice, near mint one of the Bay for a very reasonable price and I will use it with my new pre, etc. My old remote will go with the GX10ES if I keep it for my bedroom set up or sell it in the future.

I am pretty stoked, but taking set up slowly to do some wire management and get rid of the spaghetti look. Plus it gives me a chance to clean up the dust.

I’d unstack those units before ever turning them back on. There’s nowhere for the heat to go and you will have a catastrophic failure in at least one of those pieces.

The small unit between the amp and preamp is a multi-fan component cooler that sit above the vents that comes on automatically if the amp gets hot. It draws the heat in and out the back. So far the TA-N77ES hasn't gotten hot enough to even come on. It used to come on every once in awhile when it was above the STR-GX10ES receiver. New amp seems to run less hot. I'm sure the receiver needed to be tuned up, but they do have a rep for running hot.
