Connecting Yamaha T-1020 Tuner, Yamaha DSP-1, Yamaha AX-550 Amplifier

Hi, recently bought a second hand Yamaha DSP-1, but could not much progress with connecting it up to my Yamaha AX-550 and Yamaha T-1020 Tuner. The DSP-1 User Manual was a bit high level for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Speakers are 2 Way Technics.

The DSP-1 is meant to ADD 2 or 4 channels in addition to the stereo L/R channels, using an additional amp. (Did you get the DSP-1 remote? You'll need it to access the DSP-1's various modes and features.) Think of it like an add-on surround sound pre-amp.

So, do you mean that you're trying to ADD 2-way Technics speakers to 2 other speakers that you're using as your stereo L/R with your AX-550?

If not, if you're just trying to run 2 L/R stereo speakers ... (see below)

EDIT: After reading @Capt Odyssea 's posts I looked at the manual again, and although it's very poorly explained, the manual seems to infer that you CAN mix effects into the front L/R speakers, and the DSP-1 will also provide outputs for rear speakers if you have another amp for them:

...so you'd switch the "Front Mix" switch to "ON 4ch" and just not use any Sub speakers as shown:

If I recall, you can run it and add effects to the two main channels only.
You will want it connected between preamp and amp. There are switches on the back to add effect to the mains or run separate surround effect channels to other amps/apeakers.
I'm getting ready to put mine back in service, and the remote is needed to really explore and set it up.

Thank you much Johnny_Law and Capt Odyssea for the information shared. I have only two main channels and was looking to add effects to the two main channels. Would be great if you can share the details of the connections required.

The DSP-1 would connect to the AX550 pre-out RCA's into the DSP input jacks, and main out DSP rca's to the Amp input jacks on the AX.
A switch on the back of the DSP-1 will mix effects into the main left and right if selected.
All other channels are pre-outs, and require extra amplifiers and speakers to use.

Just got mine hooked up in 6 channel mode, surround fun in the Garage! Using one M35 for the 4 channels of surround.
Mx-1000u for the mains.
I know I played with the DSP endlessly via a playlist, eventually settling down to one or two effects. very cool really,
would be amazing in a venue large system.
