Conrad Johnson CA200 anyone?

I'm looking for a new integrated for our family room to pair with my DeVore Super 8's. Anyone ever listened to a CJ CA200?
Can't get access to one locally to listen to and my audio guy is saying it is quite harsh and bright and I'm used to Mac gear so I won't like it. He's trying to push me towards a Bryston B100SST, which he will give me a great deal on.
The reviews on the CJ are great and they say it is warm and musical.
I'm curious about the CA200. Anyone have any thoughts?

Tell him to prove it.

If he can present a CA 200 for you to make your own opinion-up,then his opinion may not co-incide with yours.Don't let any salesman brow-beat you into buying whatever it is that he may be pushing.

Fully agree with Theo's post above.

Sounds like your audio guy needs to spend more than a few fleeting moments with some CJ kit.

The few pieces i've spent time with were quite satisfying. I'm currently warming up to a PV-5 pre, and i'll admit that at first i too had "bright" on the tip of my tongue.

After some extended listening time i'm confident in saying that it's not bright, it just lacks the characteristic hi end roll off common in much tube gear. I'll be interested to see how much this character changes with rolling of the 12AX7's. Where this pre might end up falling short for me is in the bottom octave. The jury will still be out for a while.

Just my .02............................

I have both Mac & CJ gear. I like my PV12 over any Mac. I also like my MV125 over any Mac. But I do have a Mac rig in a bedroom and listen to it at times. CJ and Mac have different sounds I'll admit. But I'd take my CJ over the Mac anyday.

So if they have different sounds, how would you describe the diff.
Thanks

Conrad Johnson is very musical but offers more detail than Mac in my estimation. FWIW

I'll agree with you completely on the PV12, love mine. I've heard a quite a bit of CJ gear over the years and I can't say as any of it sounds overly bright to me. The only thing I can say is that the tube gear has a tonal balance more like good SS rather than what most folks think of as "tube" sound. My tube set-up and SS one sound remarkably similar, the CJ tube gear being just a bit sweeter and maybe a bit more open..I'd love to have a shot at one of the Mosfet power amps if one comes my way sometime. Good stuff....
