Considering Spendor BC 3's

I found a pair of Spendor BC 3's at a local record shop. Frankly, they're a little out of my price range, but if they're all original and working perfectly, I have to admit I'm tempted.

Any thoughts?

What should I be wary of?

I plan on driving them with a Luxman R-1050. Good match?

I rue the day I sold BC1s.
IMO you cant go wrong with Spendors.
What is the price?

Spendors have a relatively soft voicing with excellent midrange. Great for classical, jazz, vocals, etc. Definitely NOT a rock/party speaker.
Hey, make 'em an offer!

Thanks, spkrdtr. These days I'm listening mostly to free jazz, old blues and classical so I think I should be alright. Pink Floyd is about the only rock I listen to. If I want to listen to AC/DC, I'll bring out the Cerwin Vegas!

Anything I should look out for when testing them out?

Confirm with close listening that all drivers work and make sure that sound is what you want.

Thanks again. Any thoughts on how the Spendors might compare to Bowers and Wilkins DM3? Frankly, I found those pretty disappointing, even playing nice jazz records at very low volume.

No thoughts. Maybe someone else could chime in.....

Thanks for your input!

Will I get a slap on the wrist from admins for saying they want a grand plus 15% tax?

no you wont, you are not selling.
A recent asking price for them with stands was $2600. yours would be a good buy.

I've heard this model of speaker before and I adore it. I went to the shop and unfortunately the guy would not hook them up for me due to space constraints. He did however, offer a 30 day guarantee. He said if I had any problem, however slight, they would fix it. If they couldn't fix it, they would send it to someone else, and if those people couldn't fix it, they would give me a refund. He'll hold them for two weeks while I think it over.

While I'm here, does anyone have any suggestions on how to connect the Spendor's XLR input to the standard speaker-wire connector on a 1970's amplifier?

So I decided to get the Spendors and holy smokes, what a beautiful speaker!

They're a tad big for my listenning space so I have to keep the volume very low, but I'm just amazed. I soldered some XLR connectors to 12 gauge speaker wire (sloppy job, first time) but it seems to be doing the job just fine. The 55 wpc amplifier seems to have plenty of power to drive them. I can only imagine what they would sound like in a big room.

Thanks again for all the input, folks!
