This sounds like typical knee-jerk reaction. It's NAD, so it must only be medium quality at best. Proton used the same factory as NAD, so they must be guilty by association, right? Maybe they should change their name to BAD?
The fact is, I have worked on equipment that may be more esoteric than a lot of people have the luxury of coming by. I also go through different brands in my own system. But I still keep coming back to NAD equipment, it's well designed, and though cheaply made and not very fancy looking, sound wise they hit way above their price range. I restored and modded a 1020 preamp for a customer, he said he couldn't hear the difference between it and his Exposure (I think) preamp. People buy an old unrestored piece of NAD equipment, plug it in and it blows up, it must be junk. Same thing with McIntosh, Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui or any of the other brands people go ga-ga for on here, it needs restoring to bring back to it's former glory. Woe betide anyone this discredits something with a "name" attached to it : Nelson Pass, Bob Latino, Eddie Marantz, Rudolph Polk, Farquhar Infinity **. The fact that NAD/BAD are still in business making audio equipment while so many others have fallen by the wayside tells it's own story.

** yes, I know some of these names are wrong.
