Knobs look like it's a Philco to me.

Those push buttons make me think it's transitor.....and not tube.

Off topic Q.
What was on Fantasy besides CCR, that would lead you to believe it to be a highlight?:dunno:
Asking for a friend.
Lots of good jazz stuff, but most of it would have had the earlier logo. My real point was the apparent low quality of the console, not really the record being a score.

I just call up the donor and ask them if it says Solid State on the front panel. That's the fastest way. If it doesn't, but it works, I ask them if it comes on instantly or takes 15 sec. to warm up. Enough questions like that and you can usually figure it out. Assuming the donor/seller is willing to look at the thing to answer questions.

I would add that if it is close to you, why not drive by? There are other treasures in consoles besides just tube amps... and this one looks like it is a gutting contender.
Other treasures that I have found in consoles:
Atlas tweeters, horn mids, Electrostatic tweeters, boxes of NOS styli, Manuals to other electronics, records, Record cleaning kits, .... and an old bag of weed...

Is that a single-play turntable (as opposed to a changer)? If so -- that's odd, interesting, and/or intriguing.

I dunno, if that hulk were close to me, I'd be peering through the vent slots in the Masonite back panel to see what might be inside...

It's gone now. My experience asking people if their console is tube or not has been bad.
My experience with "free stuff" has been very bad. It's much easier to ask for AK opinions than it is to try and contact people who couldn't care less.

Why would you want an old bag of weeds??

I compost... don't you?
I have bought entire consoles (post 1964 SS crap) from a thrift store just to get the odds and ends that are in the pockets.... I also re-use all the T-nuts and I often harvest the 60s cabinet grade ply and reuse it in projects. I re-mill the solid walnut toe-kicks and facia boards and trim. These pieces that have $25 on them, and are half off come Saturday... are recycling treasures. I guess I have too much time.... or I just don't sleep as much as others.

Keeps em out of the landfill! At least most of the thing. :beerchug:
