Console Stereo id? Columbia?

No, the turntable plays 45, and it only needs a needle to be functional. According to the seller.

No, he says you can put in one that plays LPs. However looking at it the guy is off somehow. He might mean 78s, because the turntable... look at the arm. The 45 only changers (and it is a changer because it has an overarm)...

I don't know. the styling of the amp sectiuon does not look old enough to be eitehr 45 only or 78 only. On a 45 only they would not waste money putting in a platter bigger than about 7". If that platter is only 7", then the depth of the cabinet is very shallow.

And I have heard of Columbia, we had one when I was a kid. I eventualy took it apart. It was a stereo transformerless design which I THINK actually had a magnetic cartridge, but of course being hot chassis the cartridge wires were hot as well. The output trsansformers either had separate feedback windings or there simply was no feedback. It was styled as a one pice hifi but was stereo and the left speaker was in a smaller matching cabinet that could be pulled out for better separation. It was about the size of an EPI100, shallower I think, and of course not built the same. theback as relatively open, that stuff with the holes like the backss of old TVs.

But the styling looked NOTHING like this. Was a metal bezel, knobs were an off clear brownish, translucent with a metal conicaly shaped cap in the middle out to about the last 3/16ths of an inch of its diameter. Also tapered. It is hard to believe the same company would change their styling that drastically back then.

The one we had was tubes, this one simply does not have that tube look, it is more likely mid 1960s looking at it. Why don't these people give the model number ?

I zoommed in on the TT and it looks like the platter might be smaller than an LP which makes him think it cannot play them. Also, it seems to have a cutout for the LP to sit with the edges off of the platter, many older TTs didn't have the platter bigger than the album. Also, I notice what looks like TWO sensors between the arm and the platter. There is a possibility that this thing can play 16" LPs.

Cool unit, though I wouldn''t pay that much for it. No, I don't know. If the radio works on all bands (it does appear to have more than just AM and FM) and he has all those books with it, maybe the right person would pay that.

Things like this, other than the model number, I wish people would take off the back and put up pictures of what's inside. The thing could have 50C5s running 6" speakers or it could be biamped with JBLs in it.

I'm sure the turntable is designed to play 7", 10" and 12" records since you can see the 10" and 12" size detectors on the chassis in between the platter and the tone arm. Plus the picture on the owner's manual shows it with 12" LPs stacked on the changer. Likely just hung up and only working on 7" size or 45 rpm speed.
