Contacts for AR3 parts & repair

Bill S

Thread Killer
Does anyone have contact info for folks who sell pots and do driver repair (tweets and mids) for AR3 speakers? Folks like Roy C, JKent, etc. My friend has 3,pair of speakers and wants to get parts to restore them. I did the first pair for him a few years ago but I no longer see anyone selling pots or offering rebuilds in the drivers. Could you please PM me with any personal contact info you may have? Thx.

With the demise Vintage-AR and others, no one has filled in the gap of the retro/vintage speaker for AR speakers. Right now--it is sad that *bay is the best option at the moment in locating AR-3 & AR-3a parts. I am looking for another set of 3a pots (since I purchased the last set from Vintage-AR before they shuttered their store).

I'm about to do a complete restore on an abandoned set and I am buying drivers, caps, and other materials. It will be interesting when I get the insulation since the cabinets were partially emptied (90% stuffing is missing).

Hope someone has enough AR parts just to start a AR source for us to buy or trade.

I spoke with Roy. He,still rebuilds the 3 tweets and mids. He says L pads work just fine but the solder posts aren't the same so pay attention to orientation.

Roy will also repair woofers if necessary. One of my 3 woofers developed some distortion. I sent it to Roy, and he needed to replace the spider. He separated the Masonite ring with the woofer attached from the basket, replaced the spider and reglued the Masonite ring to the basket. The goal was to leave the cloth surround and cone in tact. Sounds fabulous. Roy has also rebuilt at least 4 sets of mids and a set of tweeters. I’m blessed with two sets of 3s, both completely restored. Simply amazing speakers.

My gut says that won’t happen. We’re very lucky to have Roy and Chris to rebuild various drivers, especially the difficult to find 3 mids.
