The C33 has both a compressor and expander circuit. It also has a 20wpc monitor amp with Power Guard as opposed to a 12 wpc amp. The C34V is virtually identical to the C33 except it only has one phono input instead of two and the names of the inputs are "modernized" such as TV, CD and Laser Disk instead of AUX1, AUX2, etc.
Are you going to be happy with the mismatched knobs between your preamp and amp?
well its here! glad I got the C33, it seems like the c28 was holding the 2205 back, the phono section is better. the seller even sent me aa cabinet for free. ( will the c33 and MC2205 fit in the slant legged cases for the c28 and 2105?) it takes a little getting used to the EQ rather than bass and treble knobs, but as I fiddle with it I believe finer sound ajustments can be made the way. Its a great preamp, much different than the c28 thats for sure. I think I may try and get an MR 80 to go with the set. this is one nice pre amp I think I am gonna have it for a long time. the knobs crackle a little bit probably because of dust, what should I try spraying them with to get the noise out? too bad 2255's are so expensive, I know that the amp that "goes" with the c33. I know the c28 is a classic, but I think the c33 bests it in every way. Lots of certidied by Mcintosh stickers stuck to the top of it. I peeled them off and some left residue, whats the best thing to use to avoid damaging the paint on it to get the glue the rest of the way off?

Way to go! The C33 is one fine preamp. Highly sought after. And that free slantleg cabinet the seller through in makes the deal that much sweeter.
The cabinets for the C28 and MC2105 will fit the your new pieces.
Get familiar with the "loudness" knob if you want an easy treble & bass control. Do you have the manuals?
Get yourself some DeOxit to clean those scratchy controls.
Rubbing alcohol should remove that sticker residue without harming the black paint.
Oh, and we like seeing pictures 'round here. Post 'em if you gottem.

The McIntosh tech guy who went through my C33 said that all the knobs and switches should be used once a week or so. To stay noise-free.
I have had very good success removing label residue using Goo-Gone on a soft rag. Put enough Goo-Gone on the label glue to "wet" it, then wait 10-15 minutes for it to melt the glue before rubbing it off. It might take two passes.

I have just the instruction manual but its been written in and the center page is falling out, I'd like to get a real copy of the service manual as well and the sales broshure cause I have those for the other pieces I have. I really like this pre amp, and the 2205 also. Big step up from the c28 and mc2105.

I too went from a C28 and 2105 to a C33 and 2205, over a year ago, and it IS a big step up. The noise floor alone makes it worth the price of admission (and both my old pieces had been to Terry, but the "new" ones just sound fantastic as is). I'm very happy with it all as is. In fact, I sold the C28 and bought another C33 to use with the 2105. Of course now my poor Mac1900 sits pretty much unused...just no comparison.
