Cool old ads in vintage student newspaper

Thanks for that Jeff. Those old ads bring ya back in time and since Doc Brown won't give me a ride in his De Lorean they have to do.
 
Interesting to read the audio ads. I wasn't in Canada at the time, but in college, and that sure triggered a few memories...

I had a programmable TI calculator similar to the ones advertised. Don't remember the exact model number, but it was their TOTL at the time. I used it once with the "card reader" function (where a little magnetic programming strip was fed through a slot in the body) during a test. The little whirring motor sound in the otherwise quiet room made everyone STARE at me, as if an alien had just landed!

Had a Kenwood amp during college, similar to the one pictured.

And "Flesh Gordon"? Yes, I remember sitting through that, partly out of curiosity and partly because it was the "trendy" or "cool" thing to do at the time... a real waste of time, as I remember it. :no: :thumbsdn:

I traded something to a roommate for his TI-58 as he did not need it for premed and I did for engineering. I think I have the book shown also.

I also have the Technics SA-200 which I just gave to my sister-in-law to put tunz in her restaurant.

Nice bit of nostalgia there.
 
I like how there were alternating ads for stereo equipment, movies, and liquor. Ah, the good old days. I never lived them, of course, but still, one can always dream. It's so odd to see proper stereo equipment - actually, any stereo equipment - advertised in any sort of mainstream publication that isn't Stereophile or that other one whose name eludes me. Very cool, though. :thmbsp:

That was one of the coolest posts ever! I love the ads, the Freak Bros. comic brought back memories, and the article on Keith Moon and the band Boston are priceless.
