Cool old Victrola tube stereo console

Picked up this beautiful Victrola tube console on Craigslist. For a late 50s/early 60s item, it's like new. Everything works, far as I can tell. I don't know anything about tube equipment; any advice as a new owner? The stereo hasn't been run in years, I was told. Thanks!

Very quiet. However, it has a very pronounced smell, of heat. Normal or no?

The tubes are probably burning the dust that has settled on them.

The smell is likely the old dust burning off the tubes as they get hot. If you want to make this a daily driver I'd suggest a minor overhaul... Pull the amp chassis, clean it, replace the old electrolytic caps, and replace the coupling caps. Also check voltages and adjust the B+ as necessary to compensate for today's higher wall voltages. It will sound better an not smell as much. All of how to do this can be gleaned from reading some threads here on AK. There are some inherent dangers working with higher voltages so make sure you understand safety first. If it doesn't have tape inputs or other line inputs available I'd probably also add something to accommodate a CD player or other source.

Thanks Buck. I was thinking about some of that stuff, others are beyond my knowledge. I plan to leave it off until I learn more, and can address some of the issues. Thanks!
