you know I have been buying Kyocera"s because I like the look so much with the wood sides that match my Pioneer sx receivers, these units were 800 new back in the day, but it seems every one I get has problems. I have 4 or 5 710"s and only one works right, also have a couple 610"s that don't work. I decided to try out a Cambridge so I won a D-300 on the bay, looks mint, it played for a couple weeks and now its not working right, maybe I should be looking for these pioneers. My tech tells me to stay away from these old cdp"s and to buy something new or newer, can these Pioneers be worked on, they look damm nice on the inside...Roost

Depends who works on them
Main problem is the pickups failing. Some pickups are not obtainable easy such as PWY1006 (PD-71) and PWY1011 (PD-73). Which makes an old hand like me to resort to all kinds of tricks. Spindle motors, too. Those which have hi torque brushless hall motors with ceramic shafts i.e. PD-75, 77, 91, 93, 95 are very reliable motor-wise.

I haven't changed anything so far. I've been listening to it with the op-amps it was modified with: 6 - JRC 5534DD with OPA134PA
2 - JRC 5532DD with OPA2134PA.

I just haven't devoted any time to ordering and installing anything different yet.

It does sound different than another PD-93 I picked up a little while ago that is completely stock.

What Hennessy said. I have a few more Pioneer CD players than what is pictured in this thread(14 or 15 with 12 being the Elite/Reference players) and I've had to do some work to a few of those. Most has to do with the pickups. I also have a PD-73 and I just got a PD-71 and both of those required my attention. The changers have almost all required attention. My PD-75, PD-91 and PD-93's have not required any work except to undo some questionable modifications to the PD-91.

All my players work as they should. I would also like to point out that Hennessy has helped me on a couple of tricky issues.

I think I should start a "copper plated changer" thread haha! While not as highly detailed as the single disc players it might be interesting.

That one used to be mine, I thought the upgrade was a significant improvement & I put in sockets for future fun.
