I recently caught the vintage speaker bug after buying a set of Cerwin Vega vs120. Then a pair of Coral bx1200. I seem to love the kabuki sound that lots make fun of !! Haha.
So the latest find are some Coral bx1000. These are 3 way speakers. Sound OK but I realize now the midrange isn’t putting anything out on either speaker. Midrange does move when using a 9 volt battery to test. So I assume they are not blown?
I’ve looked at the tone dial on back of speakers (low normal and hi settings) and it’s a complicated gizmo. See pics. I guess this is the crossover. Seems to have variable contact points based on dial position. And a few capacitors in series. The mid range seems to not use a capacitor tho. Full signal from what I see in wiring but I’m a newbie at this. Yellow - midrange, green- woofer and blue - tweet.
Can someone enlighten me on this ? I’m new to crossovers etc.
Would I dare cut this dial out and put in a new crossover from parts express?
