Coral speakers anyone?

I have 2 pair of Coral speakers and am listening to a pair right now. Wasn't aware that Coral sold speaker kits. If they are similar to earlier Corals they will be very efficient, but won't wow you with a lot of base. How do they look and sound?

Friends of mine in the SET-tube-low-wattage community ADORE the Corals. Macgolf's comment about weak bass is true, but my friend's don't care. Some speakers, like electrostatics, also don't do strong deep bass, but have other special and unique qualities.

I rotate one pair through my tube units(SEP EL84 & PP 7189's) and the other does living room duty with a low powered cap-coupled Realistic receiver. I don't enjoy them as much with my other SS units.

Are the backs glued on, or just the drivers? Perhaps some pics when you get time will help see if there is a way into the cabs.

According to the woman I picked them up from, they were built by her husband in high school. Typical 70's cabinet particle board wood. These were built wedge shaped tapering towards the top. He did build in a nice slab of slate on the top of each speaker though. The one woofer looks like a cat used it as a scratching post. The other is damage free. I did notice lots of fine metal dust around the centers of the tweets for some reason. As I said earlier, these have been siliconed into place so I will need to work them out.
