Cornscala Type D crossover design

I'm pretty new here but have been working on DIY audio projects for many years. I'm getting going on a pair of Cornscala Type D's with Crites CW1526 woofers and Faital HF140 tweeters paired with LTH142 waveguides. Cabinets will be approximately 6.5 cu. ft. This is roughly the same design that Justin Weber at Ampsandsound documented a few years back. I've been hunting EVERYWHERE to get details on an appropriate network - either to buy or to assemble myself - but am coming up emptyhanded. Can someone point me in the right direction?

FWIW I have outstanding emails to Justin as well as the Crites team, so perhaps I'll get a good lead from one of them. It also appears that Al at ALK Engineering has retired, so I haven't tried to get in touch with him...perhaps I should?

Any other advice or warnings on this build would also be appreciated, as this is my first foray into Klipsch-based designs.

I have a pair of the CS-D's. They are an older Factory made pair.
While they are quite efficient, the Cabinet build quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Make sure you make those cabinets extremely Solid, heavily Braced and use double
thickness front baffles. While the CritesCW1526 are pretty good, I have many vintage woofers,
that Really out perform them, EV sp's15, and 15W's , Stephens, and Numerous JBL's.
I have the Basic Crites 500 cps X-overs. They are OK but probably could use better caps,
and wiring. Even though they are listed as 500 cps, I'm pretty sure it's closer to 7-800hz.
If you like sizzling Highs upgrade to a 3 way with the MAHL De10's.
I like the Elliptical horn.,but the stock horn driver is not terrific..

Al just sent me a pair attenuator boards in May. Email him. the weather is nice, he might just be working.

Thanks for the feedback. Great points for me to include in my considerations of how to proceed! Re: woofers, the Crites units are relatively affordable and I figured I could easily experiment with "better" (or more expensive) options like the Faital 15PR400 at a later date (assuming I go with a swap-able front baffle design). Sounds like there may be other good options to consider as well, so I'll keep that in mind if/when it comes time to tinker.
 
Just heard back from Michael Crites: sounds like the CS500 is what I need. I don't see it listed on their product pages, so I have a direct link if anyone else needs it. That said, I'll still take any input or suggestions on crossover, as I gather the Crites unit isn't the only option.

Looked at it. I know you can add another section, and make it a three-way. Normally a monstrosity like the ES-5800. This unit had a tweeter transformer (autoformer) on it.

Eric, I think you're going to want to cross that HF140 at 700Hz. I say that because that driver has an impedance peak at 600Hz (driver resonance and higher possible distortion) and 700Hz will get you off that peak. I attached AL's AP12-700 schematic. I believe the 24 ohm resistor is only needed when running a 3-way configuration (see Dean's post of the layout). Otherwise, the 24 is just in parallel with the 10 ohm, so not needed. At least that's how I see it.

Good evening. In my quest to somehow build a Cornscala without being able to buy the finished crossovers due to geographical impediments, I think I found a lot of the informations I need - many of them right in this thread. As I understand it, this crossover is designed to work with the K33, which is 6 ohm. I was planning on using the 4 ohm Eminence Kappa 15C and cross over at 500 Hz. Could you please point me in the direction how this would change the above mentioned crossover parts?

You should be able to use the 15C in place of the K-33 without any crossover changes, their parameters are close enough that in a 2nd order network the differences are relatively minor.

To me the 15c is a bit tighter, I like them both.

Thank you for your advice. I was planning on using the SB Audience 65CDN-T, which only comes in 8 ohms. I'm guessing that the crossover was propably designed for the K-55, which is 16 ohms. Is this troublesome?

If you are using an ALK constant impedance crossover, your 8 ohm driver should be fine as the swamping resistor stabilizes the impedance near 8 ohms regardless. There are exceptions but the driver you chose will requires enough attenuation that it should not be an issue.
