Cornwall III and Eico

I picked up a very nice pair of Cornwall III's in walnut off the local CL. I was wanting some horns to go with my Eico HF-20's. All I can say is, WOW! I am completely blown away with the sound!:thmbsp: I had them initially hooked up to my SS Kenwood 600 integrated which was a very good sound. When I hooked them up to the Eico's they went to entirely different level. I was truly amazed at the difference. Even my wife said they sounded much better with the tube amps. I guess there is something about the big Klipsch with tubes thing?:scratch2:

I haven't noticed any feedback problems but it is a temporary placement. I do have a noise issue with my turntable but only when the auto play/return is engaged and only audible with volume. This happens in other placements as well. Once the cart is on the record, it is dead quiet.:scratch2: Someday, I will have a turntable without issues, someday.:dunno:

If I remember you had a pair of Cornwalls and traded them or sold them last year???
Those look Nice:thmbsp: I have listened to my old Corns on McIntosh seperates and Fisher tubes back when Pop had them in a huge Living room. I guess I am getting deaf and old (61):scratch2: but my Yamaha AVR amps on "Pure Direct"
mode in my very small Den sound Great:music: shame a lightening strike near the house took out the McIntosh and the TV .Man Pop was Mad. Bluray came out(HDMI) and he too went AVR . Now I have them and keep reading about old school amps etc sounding better.:scratch2:

At the time I parted with the Cornwall I's, I did not have a working tube amp and had the opportunity to get a pair of JBL L300's at a very reasonable price. They are one of those speakers I always wanted but could never afford. Fast forward a few months, I aquired a pair of very nice Eico HF-20 mono integrated amps. I got them from the original owner who was an electrical engineer. They were daily users since 1958. Then there was a pair of Cornwall III's on our local CL. Had to rob some $$$ out of the vacation fund but I got them. The Eico's and the Corns have a sound that is truly amazing to my ears!:thmbsp:

One of my favorite things to do when I need to relax and reflect is listen to music. I want it accurate, clear and full. I want to hear the squeek on the strings and the Leslie when the musician changes the speed of the horns. I now get that with the Eico/Corns.:music: I could give a tinkers damn about booms and bangs with home theater when I am in the mood to listen to music. Oh, I have a very good HT but, that is mainly for the wife and the grandkids. If you ever get to Northern California, come by and have a listen, I thiink you will be impressed.

I feel the same....HT was for the wife and kids.................. home alone Norah Jones "Come Away With Me" I recorded on my Revox R2R off a SACD............smooth with just the Yamaha amps and no Eq turned on. I wanted to use my Yamaha RX-V1900 HD AVR as a Pre/Pro and look for different amps to hook up to the Cornwalls for :music:.
I live in Texas a bit far to drive to where you are. But Thanks for the invite :thmbsp: I would really like to hear your amps and the Corwall III I have the older 1979 models Pop got new back then. Bob Crites new Cross Overs made a big difference.:thmbsp: I have never heard the newer III model.:scratch2:

I bought the III's mainly because they were local, that never happens here, and based upon my experience with the older models. I have to say it is a bit comforting to have a great pair of speakers that are just over a year old as opposed to 35+ years old.

I have a nice SS amp, Kenwood 600, that does sound great with the Corns, especially with vinyl. The Eicos just drive them better with a more full soundstage, depth and a very nice warmth. I was listening to some Wes Montgomery and Gerge Benson last night. They really capture the sustain and ring of the strings better than any system I have had in recent memory.

Dad left me about 400 LP from the 60,70 and early 80's. My older Brother got the Thorens TT but I got the Corns and Revox and all the music. He only like R&B on cd's and sold the TT:tears: 1/2 brother same Mom. I wanted that TT he sold it to tick me off. grrrr. Oh well I am over it. Anyway I have some George Benson etc so many LP, and I got Pop's other TT a Pioneer PL-518X with a ADC XLM MK II Improved as I finally found the new Improved stylus for it. I have a Pickering XUV too that needs a stylus. Later on the vinyl, I spent too much on Revox, Tinman is restoring it. When I sell my ole vette I will look at some old school amps.again. Been there with the McIntosh many years ago.
I have noticed the Revox with a good tape recording has "warmth" to it. Not so bright that I have to adjust the Eq searching for that tube sound I guess as I was raised around it. I have my Corns in a very small den. They are in each corner of the wall,(towed in) about 9 feet apart and sofa is 7 feet back :music:

my Eico HF-81 sounds great with K'Horns, Heresys, Quartets and Chorus IIs...bet they would as well with HIIIs...I really like the HIIIs I have heard...enjoy!

This combo prodces some of the most accurate low end I have heard in my many systems. Tight and thumping without unnecessary boominess. It blends very well wtih the mids and tweeter. I believe moving the woofer closer to the horns helped that out quite a bit. That and, I read they tweaked the crossover a bit. I am very much enjoying this system!:music:
