Correct Hook ups for JBL's with Black positive inputs on Pro woofers.

Probably because they just don't think about it so it is not a concern. Some of the old equipment did have a phase switch and a difference was notable.
all 4 of my Vintage tube preamps have Phase or Reverse switches.
although they are probably not the same?
Actually only my Citation 1 has an actual Phasing switch, along with Reverse

Did the recording engineer pay attention to phase when he made the recording?Unlikely.
Your amp and preamp depending on how many gain stages, may invert the phase. Absolute phase just means the first movement of a driver is outward when power is connected to the positive terminal. Early JBL did not consider this it seems, not until their speakers were mixed with other brands of positive convention. This is when you had better connect positive power to black.

I once had a DAC with an absolute polarity switch on it for instant AB comparison. Differences in playback sound quality were most noticeable on recordings that were of a small number of musicians utilizing simple microphone and production techniques where absolute phase may have been maintained. Even then it was usually subtle but still worth achieving absolute phase when possible given that it costs nothing.

Been there with the JBL polarity issue. As mentioned check individual drivers or system with a battery and make sure they are all in phase.

I went to my buddies house
Today and did the AA battery test 1st
On his L300’s and his 4435’s.
And just reversed the speaker Wires!
He bought both pairs brand new.
After we played them,
He admitted that he called our good friend
Bill Legal “Millersound “
about the Jbl polarity.
Bill laughed and said Of course Bob is Right

You should’ve swapped the wires without telling him to see if he would notice ;)
Kinda hard to do.Seeing that I traveled 130 miles to his house on the way to my daughters house.
specifically to make the tests and then the changes.
He often states that he would be more likely leave me alone with the keys to his Original 25000 mile
Cuda, his low mileage Indian Motor Cycle, and his naked Wife, Than allow me unsupervised
access to his Stereo!
Can’t imagine why?
