Cosmetic upgrade Advent Heritage’s

Just a good clean up, polished with Orange Oil, replaced the grill cloth with more of a “classic” Advent cloth and fixed the cracked tops on my $50 Advent Heritage’s I bought this summer.

My Heritages have the stock finish and look like new.
My Laureates (2 pairs) are in poor condition and I need to do something with. I might try to duplicate the look you created. Its really nice.

I was looking for more a darker burlap color, like on my Advent Large’s, but this was the closest I could find.

Have you had any problems with the top wood splitting on any of yours?

I buy from needlework suppliers that sell to people that do cross stich. I make sure I buy a 24 to 28 thread count true linen, an all linen cloth that isn't blended with a cotton or a synthetic. Higher end brands like Wichelt will sell a cashel linen in dozens of colors with a dozen or so between white and light brown which run the full range through the beige hues. You will need to call to order by the yard at most suppliers and it's pricey. There are also some lower priced linens which are 100% linen but not from Ireland but still perfectly suitable for our use. I'm currently waiting on a first delivery from Fabric Wholesale Direct and I'm hoping it will be satisfactory but I don't know the thread count. It's much lower in price than the Irish stuff at about $13 for a 36" by 60" piece. I've read that at 28 threads per inch or less, linen is sound transparent and my experience stands up to that.

Yes.
The set of Legacies I have had splt, but I has able to repair it easily by disassembling it, regluing, and refinishing (I used Tung Oil - it came out nice). The split on these was where two different pieces of wood were laminated together.

My Heritages are in nice shape - no splitting on these, but I oil them regularly.

My Lauriates though are bad. Two of the four are split on the top, one severe. I'd like to fix them all but not sure how to fix the bad split. All 4 need refinishing. I'll probably take the 2 best cabinets and refinish those first and figure out an approach on the bad ones at a later date.
