Cost too much ? Sansui

That's too much for the amp if it hasn't been re-capped etc.
Make him an offer, maybe the top price is about $250? 300?

Isn't that top of the line.
I have the 8500 and I can say that it's a super performer so I can only imagine what the 9500 must be like. The internals are a sight to see btw - very well laid out and clean design.

Top of THE LINE would be the AU-9500.

The AU-20000 was TOTL of the Professional series, which came after the AU-9500 series.

I think $500 is a bit much, unless it is near mint.

I stand corrected...
Guess i always thought that the AU series was all one line. I learned something today :D

It seems that Sansui gets more and more popular. For good reasons.

I just checked them on eBay and 2 units sold (shipped) $600 & $800. One non-working sold $330.

Is Sansui AU-999 TOTL? What about matching TU-999 tuner?

AU-999 was TOTL for it's series

AU-9500 came slightly after and was TOTL for it's series

Then the AU-20000 came after and was definitely TOTL for it's series unless you count the separate BA/CA 2000-5000 in the same series.

I don't know if there was another series that was between the 9500 and the 20000 in terms of chronology.

I wouldn't pay $500 for this amp. Not nice enough looking or restored in any way. More like $300-350 if you really wanted it. I'm sure it's an incredible amp, but this one doesn't appear to be in great condition.
