Could you help me pick a receiver?

Sherwood S-7650 CP or Pioneer QX949A both are available at a local shop and both are roughly the same price. I like the look of the sherwood better, but the power and capability of the QX.. I'm going to use it to stream from my pc and to push my OLA's.

Unless you are prone to being one of the few going the quadraphonic aka four channel route, give that Pioneer a miss. There's no reson to consider it otherwise.

The Advents are pretty efficient so either should push them no problem. But if I’m not mistaken doesn’t the Sherwood have more power? 45 vs 40wpc?

That 5 watt difference will be inaudible. Actually the Pioneer is 60 watts/channel into two channels (40 watts x 4), but that difference is still inaudible. But I'm surprised these are selling for around the same price. Pioneer receivers usually sell at a premium, while Sherwood usually flies under the radar.

I like it.

Restored OLAs probably deserve more than either of these choices.

I'll look for the Pioneer, but like he said, leave the 4 channels for the 4 channel guys.

Obviously 5wpc isn’t going to be noticeable, I missed that the pioneer was 40x4, I stand corrected.

C1B36562-37BB-4E19-99FB-D39D5F7C0862.jpeg Well, I went to see them and while I liked the look of the Kenwood. The Pioneer plus a set of these CS63DX’s asking $450 for the set 200 for the receiver and so bought the set for $250 complete I am pretty happy right now.

I don’t know that I will go full on quadraphonic, but I really like the idea of trying it. At $250 it’s a healthy hobby to drop it on... right?

That's synthesized quad, not the real deal.

The old quad media and players will set you back.

I'd use it as two channel myself. It's up to you.

Pioneer QX949A because of the build quality and looks.
The beefier amp is another plus.

Just keep in mind its also a more complex receiver. And should a full rebuild be
your thing its not cheap to do.
