So I'm a newbie here and finally got around to checking out and attempting to service an SL-1700MK2 that I purchased for $50 about 7 years ago on Craigslist. The first issue was that the tonearm was not moving properly when I attempted to cue. After 20 minutes or so of cursing and almost dripping sweat (I need to drop a few pounds) onto a PCB, I successfully replaced the o-ring. I also dug up the Technolink TC-750LC preamp that I bought at the same time and never used.
I found the TC-750LC, my plan was to save up for a Schiit (how is that pronounced?) Mani Phono Preamp. Is spending the extra money worth it over the TC-750LC that I already own? I'm going to add a Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge with new headcase. Any opinions on this cartridge with the SL-1700MK2? My setup now is a pair of BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers, but I plan to build a box for a Dayton Audio 12" subwoofer that I also bought at the same time and never used. I'm ordering Hosa CAIG DeoxIT FaderLube and was told that I should get some oil too. What kind of oil is recommended?
