Couple of local tube possibilities

I wasn't really wondering about $ deals as the models themselves, so that's why I posted it in the tube forum. Because as I said, I don't know much about tube units, so I was hoping tube folks could fill me in. Does every post with a CL link end up here?

For someone starting out in tubes, getting the Stromberg-Carlson or the Maggie is a good bet. Simple to operate, Simple to work on, not much to them parts wise.

The Tele, however is a parts nightmare. It has more capacitors, than the other two combined. And they are tightly packed in there. Good working units, sound is nice when fully recapped, but as a stand alone, it's a non starter.

If you're looking to do a stand alone, the Maggie WINS Hands down for the simple reason that it is so prevalent in the community. Parts are simple, cheap and plentiful. Almost everyone that has done a standalone has done at least 1 maggie.

The Stromberg carlson is more likely mono. It's a good unit, and TOM BAVIS will probably be able to tell you which line it was built on, who built it, and whether it was on a monday or not.... :D You can still get parts from V-O-M for the Turntable too.

better prices then the guy in springpatch here locally that thinks he is going to get500 $ for his Magnavox console

Thanks guys. I e-mailed the Telefunken guy and haven't heard back. It has been on CL for a while so he may have sold it and just never took the ad down. I e-mailed the Magnavox owner and that looks like it will be a go for $60. I really like the look of the Magnavox and the relatively good chance someone can refurb it for me that Larry suggested. I'd love to try myself, but I just don't have time right now. I'll report back with photos once one of them finds its way to my house!
