Couple of pictures of DIY Risch Line conditioner

I had tried to take a bunch of pictures of my construction of a DIY john risch line conditioner.
Of the lot I only got these two that are presentable.
I think with some Photoshop work I can clean up a few more.
This conditioner was constructed "fast and dirty" over the course of a 2 hour period and has improved my mains quality far beond the cost$ about 50 and time.
I will try to post more pictures and a review later but I reccomend this project.
the PCb was a kit I bought at RS and etched myself.
all other parts are available at digikey and I would be happy to share part#'s

Thanks Glenn,
I'll try to see if I can clean up a few more tonight, or I guess try to take a few more of final construction.
this was an easy, fun project to do that gives real results for not much$$ plus the satisfaction of DIY just can't be bought IMO.

It sure is tempting to solder the entire surface of the traces of those diy type of PCB's and i can tell you fell prey. but thats ok. i do too lol. Looks like rat shack silver solder too. am i right?

I almost built one of these myself using the PCB already made from DIYcable.com since its so much cleaner than making one myself. But when i saw the monster power centers for 109 that seemed like the obvios choice for me considering i would have spent close to 80 bucks to make the JR filter.

I shouldn't admit this in public but gasp* it's the last of my roll of cardas-wasteful little bastard aren't I...
I really didn't feel like varnishing it and I figured that the extra 1/32 or so of solder over all of the traces couldn't hurt my ampacity any.
In retrospect, it would have looked more professional and been more economical not to coat the whole board but, since it's enclosed peace of mind won out over asthetics-right or wrong.

What's the basic theory on that design- smooth out the voltage or actually filtering noise?

Primary function = filtering noise. There is no voltage regulation function as this is a simple design, the filter will remove switching transients, and other mains borne noise. Viewed on an oscilloscope the resulting output waveform will appear smoother.

I would be very interested in both the parts list and the circuit connections (schematic).

Thanks in advance.

What sort of load will one of these handle? Would it be OK for the power amp & source stuff to be on one? I've been torn between trying this or the John Maher
device..Hmmm..decisions..

I've been wanting to make a line conditioner for quite some time. Any place to find good parts list and schematics for one?

Hello all, will have to search out the schematic, but here is the component level parts list.
Digikey was my supplier.

2x High current RF choke 50UH --P/N M8717-ND
1x .01uf interference metal capacitor 250V Y3/X2 rated--P/N P4609-ND
3x .047uf interference metal capacitor 250v X2 rated--P/N p4602-ND
1x Surge absorber 20mm 240v 6500A zener--P/N P7324-ND
1x circuit breaker(if desired) 302-1279-ND
1x power switch CH840-ND (optional, lighted switches are not reccomended if I remember correctly)
following available to source locally;

1x receptacle of choice
1x power cord of your choosing
1x plug end of choice
1x project enclosure of choice
1x Miniature Strain Relief Cord Connector

1x etch your own PCB kit like this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=055-134
(which is available at ratshack as well, I'm sure)

I have a schematic on one of my computers around here somewhere; just may take me a little while to locate...
