Cover Songs

I can't find a thread on cover songs, as you know this is the long standing practice of a group performing, "covering" a song originally done by another group. I have always found it interesting to compare the original and the cover. In way too many cases early on black musicians were ripped off by "white" cover songs played on stations that would not play any music performed by a black artist. Pat Boone, Elvis Presley just to name two got rich doing this. When you hear the original it is so much better.

Here are two songs from the late 1970's I know you have all heard the Cover but how many of you have heard the original. I am sure you can all come up with examples. :D

Sorry for the crap sound Google has Youtube sounding like elephant farts.

The Czars-My Funny Valentine

I really don't know who did MFV first but there are a hundred covers.

My Funny Valentine is an excellent example of cover music Discogs lists 2,742 releases of this song. It was written in 1937 by Richard Rodgers with the lyrics by Lorenz Hart and was part of the musical Babes in Arms and was first sung by Mitzi Green. I am listening to the Miles Davis cover as I type very nice:yes:
