CR-2020 help please

Coming to Mecca for some help with my sweet CR-2020

So - comes on as usual - I can hear the relay click
After 4-5 minutes - no signal - no meters, nothing, built in tuner or turntable or anything - goes dead silent - then comes back on for three minutes - then off for 5 - then back on for 3 - etc. etc.

Most likely taking her in but figured I'd check with the forums here on AK

You might start by checking for cracked/loose solder joints on both your - relay board, and main capacitor board.

As was stated by arhargi, you most probably have a bad temperature-dependent solder joint or crack in pcb somewhere. When the temperature rises beyond a threshold, it gets disconnected and comes back when the temperature drops again.

Before touching any components, I’d get a magnifying glass, remove the bottom cover, and go over all solder joints starting with the power supply, relay, and cap boards. Reflow anything and everything that looks even half suspicious … heck, reflow everything. Hopefully that should solve the problem.

Yammy is my favorite SS amp and I tell ya, I can have one on the bench that's masterfully soldered, then the next one comes along and it's all cracked up... literally.

High mag head magnifiers are a real help here.... unless the amp came from a smoker's home, in which the nicotine makes bad solder joints show up like a neon sign
