CR-3020 Repair/Restoration Needed

Could you guys point me to someone that works on the big CR-3020?

I took it to the regional Yamaha repair facility in Atlanta and they wouldn't touch it.

Also, I could really use a service manual but didn't seen one n the AK archives.

Yup, so did Steve, we each redid one.

Hard to tell it's been redone with all those covers.

It was losing the right channel from time to time. It could be remedied by moving the volume control back and forth generally. Most recently both channels began to sound scratchy. That's when I unplugged it.​

I'm guessing it's also cap time.

Sounds like the vol pot needs a deox, i'm sure he can do that himself.

Man, BK, I wish you would have snapped some shots with the covers off.
I've been through a CR-1020 and I'm in a CR-2020 now. I'd love to see the nude of a CR-3020.

Before to do anything in this wonderfull unit , I will suggest you to see the speaker relay who can easely bring this kind of troubles ...Once you replace it you can go forward
Honestly I will suggest this relay first ( I have 2 CR3020 ) :thmbsp:

Doesn't it have 3 relays for the speakers? Try another relay, that will tell ya!

Thanks for the DeOxit and Relay suggestions. I told my friend that DeOxit was his friend, but his technical fixit knowledge isn't much advanced beyond repairing garden hoses (he's a horticulturalist). He also lives a 100 miles away. Multiply that times the 80 lbs the 3020 weights and you get....unlikely to the nth power. Actually, he's coming by tomorrow to get his banjo repaired. How hard is it to get to the volume and balance pots?
