CR 620 Disappointing vs CR 400

I adjusted the Idling Current on my CR 620 today, hoping it would make me like the sound of it as much as my CR 400, but I don't think it's going to.

I can't get over it but my CR 400 seems to have more power then the CR 620. 400 also sounds much nicer.

I actually think I like my SX 780 more than the CR 620's sound.

I'd like to swap my CR 620 for a CR 400, 600, or 800 receiver. Evidently, Yamaha's older receivers are their best sounding ones, unless something is wrong with my CR 620.

I was running the CR 620 at 1 o'clock on the volume. It seems to have no guts vs the CR 400. I just don't like this CR 620 much, or all CR 620's sound wise. The treble the 620 makes is piercing and hurts my ears whereas the highs the 400 makes are smooth and I can listen to it for hours.

I'm going to get this CR 620 out of my living room ASAP and get either my SX 780 or CR 400 back in here. The CR 620 isn't anything I even care to own. It looks great and is nice to operate, but sound wise, it's just so-so, if that..

I might like the CR 620 more with other speakers. It, as well as my CR 400, do not seem to push my Boston Acoustics A100s very well at all.

I'm running the 620 with my Philips speakers now, which are much more efficient, but the 620 still seems lacking in power.

IIRC the 620 has that 'loudness' knob which always confused me. Turned all the way one direction was full sound, the other less so. As I remember, it was the opposite of what a normal 'loudness' button did.

Yes, many Yamaha receivers have that loudness knob, and so did my Denon DRA 425 receiver (and it was called "variable loudness" on that). It's like a mid range level knob. Turned up all the way, it seems to have more volume but then the mids seem to be too high.

I'm running the CR 620 more today, with some vintage jazz.
I need to run it for at least a few days to really see if I'm going to want to keep it or not. The highs it makes seems too bright but there are other things about it's sound that I appreciate.

I was listening to my CR 400 in the bedroom with my Boston Acoustics CR8s on stands last night, and I sooo love that combination.
